Symantec Security Response - Jul 22, 2016 - Spam bots drive Tinder's Users to sign up on adult webcam and erotic video websites

According to new research from Symantec, the makers of Norton consumer security solutions, criminals masquerading as Tinder users concerned for their safety are tricking other users into visiting a malicious third-party website to verify their profiles. The website, which looks strikingly like Tinder, is really a scam that racks up charges on the victim’s credit card.

Here are some Tips to stay safe while online dating:
  • Avoid third-party websites: If someone from an online dating website asks you to visit a third-party website to sign up for a service, like a verified profile, it’s most likely a scam. It’s always a good idea to scrutinize links, especially from unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Share with care: If you can, make sure your username doesn’t give away any identifying information, like your age or location, and always be careful about what you share in messages.
  • Use a VPN: When using Wi-Fi, one of the best ways to protect the data coming in and out of your phone – like messages on a dating app – is to use a Virtual Privacy Network (VPN) like Norton WiFi Privacy.

Schroders : Jul 11, 2016 - Multi-Asset Insights: Have central banks lost their potency in determining exchange rates?

Monetary policy has been a factor in driving exchange rates since the end of the Bretton Woods system (which dissolved between 1968-73). That was when central banks began to flex their powers and experiment with money supply, interest rate targeting or currency intervention to influence the development of macroeconomic variables such as domestic economic growth and inflation.

However, recent reactions - such as a stronger yen after the Bank of Japan’s negative interest rate policy - have called into question the link between monetary policy and exchange rates. We also suggest that going forward, monetary policy will be less influential in driving currency returns because of increased perceptions of policy ineffectiveness in driving future economic growth and inflation.

Kaspersky : New study reveals the Internet is a source of family conflict and disconnect

Jul 15, 2016:

The way we live our digital lives at home is having a big impact on our family relationships, according to new research from Kaspersky Lab and iconKids & Youth. With people spending ever more time online, a fifth of parents and children say that the Internet and connected devices can be a cause of family tension.

The research, which surveyed over 3,700 families in seven countries, provides an insight into how the digital world is disrupting traditional family dynamics. Whereas in the past parents were the first port of call for children seeking answers to questions or advice, one-in-four (23%) of the parents surveyed say that their kids now prefer to go online rather than talk to them.

The research also found that almost half (42%) of parents are not friends with their children on social networks, and one-in-five (18%) says this is because their children would find it embarrassing.

All in all, a fifth of parents (21%) and children (22%) say that the Internet can cause family tension. Most concerning of all, one-in-three parents (31%) believe the Internet isolates them from their children.

The conflict may be exacerbated by the fact that the devices used to go online are often shared. Two-thirds of the families surveyed said they share a family computer. As result, a third of parents (31%) complain that their child has broken something on a connected device or infected it with a virus while online (30%) and a quarter (24%) has had to pay for something their child had ordered or downloaded. Similarly, 13% of kids accuse parents of breaking a device and 16% complain that their parents had accidentally deleted some of their data.

Delivering Business Outcomes Through Zero Maintenance

By Srinivasan Thiagarajan, Assistant Vice President, Global Managed Services, Cognizant

Application maintenance is one of the most critical services delivered by IT service delivery organizations with various engagement forms ranging from fixed-bid, to managed services, to business outcome-based models.

Among the many operational challenges corporations continually face is the question of how much time and money they should allocate to application maintenance. It is imperative for organizations to free up their IT maintenance budgets to allocate funds to fuel business growth.

In today’s digital age, responsiveness and agility are vital for businesses to remain competitive in consumer-focused market conditions. With a complex application landscape and infrastructure bloat, it is going to be all the more challenging to serve the business purpose.

To address these challenges, businesses need to look beyond the traditional practices of IT cost optimization. The application portfolio needs to be modular and componentized to handle any changing business requirements. The infrastructure should be optimized to meet the “right” demand. And finally, IT should be able to deliver value and make an impact on business performance and not merely focus on IT service level agreements (SLAs).

“Zero maintenance” is a philosophy that underpins application maintenance models and helps reduce the cost of maintaining applications by eliminating effort as well as work. It is not sufficient to eliminate the effort required to maintain applications, but to invest in increasing resiliency and building the functionality needed for business growth to improve the “technical value” and “business value” of the portfolio.

The maintenance of applications is generally in the following order of maturity: Move from a “fail-and-fix” mode (for example, restoring a server after it has crashed) to a “predict-and-prevent” state (for example, using alerts to prevent the failure of a system by taking corrective action or auto-upgrading of disk space when it reaches its threshold), and finally to a “fail-proof” state (for example, back-up infrastructure kicks off automatically when the primary fails, providing a seamless experience to the end user).

Zero maintenance aims to progressively improve the IT portfolio maturity to a “fail-proof” state by:
  • Reducing non-discretionary spend,
  • Optimizing discretionary spend, and
  • Delivering business outcomes.
Reducing non-discretionary spend is about eliminating activities that are not absolutely necessary and automating those that are. This is done by eliminating the effort for delivering a service (by reducing the incidents) and optimizing the infrastructure by reclaiming unused or underused infrastructure.

Optimizing discretionary spend focuses on lowering the cost of enhancing the applications to make them stay relevant and reducing the time-to-market for new functionalities. The framework measures technical value of the application portfolio and has interventions to make them ‘fit for use’, significantly reducing the waste induced by multiple factors such as complexity, heterogeneity and quality.

Delivering business outcomes is to counter-balance the overt focus on cost. The application that is ‘fit for use’ needs to be ‘fit for purpose’ as well. A framework to baseline and enhance the business value becomes imperative to delivering the desired business results. A two-way drill-down (top-down and bottom-up) approach will ensure that the applications deliver what the business needs.

In a typical client context, these three components of zero maintenance will need to be applied in the right proportion in order to deliver on the client’s short-term and long-term goals. Organizations battling with legacy platforms would want to control their op-ex as a top priority and may want to focus on controlling their non-discretionary spend. Mature organizations would up their ante towards business outcomes as most of their non-discretionary and discretionary spend are in the right proportion. Alternatively, organizations looking to go digital may have to focus on all the three―cap-ex, op-ex and business outcomes.

This approach has been seen to deliver on a wide variety of objectives, which is very important, specifically because, no two organizations have identical needs when it comes to application maintenance.

The zero maintenance approach sustains and enhances the business as well as technical value of application portfolio, positively impacting cap-ex, op-ex and business performance. With structured tools and frameworks in place, this journey can be accurately measured and tracked for any stated objective and turned into competitive advantage.

VM Insight also enables quick correlation with other Fabric Vision metrics to identify the root cause of problems before operations are affected.

Red Hat Summit 2016 Highlights - New Innovations

Jul 26, 2016:

We live in a time of great change, and technology is a big catalyst in this transformation. In fact, thanks to technology, the rate of change around us continues to accelerate, creating significant challenges across the spectrum of IT, business, and society.

In the words of Jim Whitehurst, our CEO, “People recognize that they are not capable of innovating at the pace they want to innovate; and they recognize that paddling harder isn’t working.” In order to overcome these challenges, fresh thinking and creative solutions are needed, and it can be too much for one person or an individual organization to address them alone.

That’s why we must now find new ways to work together. We need to embrace the notion that participation is the new innovation. To do that, we need to be willing to toss out our conventional thinking about how work gets done.

It’s just like an orchestra. While each and every individual musician is talented, the role of the conductor is to bring those individuals together in a way to produce something that is greater than any one of those musicians could produce on their own.

Here, we highlight the key technology updates discussed at Red Hat Summit 2016 in San Francisco where participation was the theme of the week.

1. Open source

Businesses need to be more than consumers of open source technology – they have to be contributors, too, as the resources they need may span different organizations as well as geographies. Success will follow when businesses collaborate to create new innovations that would not have been possible without partnership.

Touching upon the theme of innovation through partnership and participation, we announced our partnership with Eurotech, a leading provider of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) platforms and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, to launch a new, open source Eclipse Foundation project to manage IoT edge devices, from connectivity and configuration to application lifecycle. The co-sponsored project, Eclipse Kapua, combines with the existing Eclipse Kura project to offer IoT developers and end users an open platform for end-to-end IoT implementations, helping them avoid costly, proprietary lock-in, while accelerating community-driven development.

This collaboration represents a significant boost to open source IoT solutions and marks the development of the first end-to-end, open source, IoT platform.

2. Containers

Containers are driving a rapid evolution of the enterprise computing stack. However, while this innovation is happening quickly, enterprise-grade solutions – hardened and standardized for the rigors of business computing – have been slow to follow. In particular, as containers move from experimentation to enterprise-reality, security is becoming increasingly paramount -- as is retaining existing investments in IT and maintaining stability for the future.

Launched at Red Hat Summit 2016, we now deliver the industry's broadest, enterprise-grade set of solutions for the deployment of Linux containers and container infrastructure across the enterprise, which includes a new container-scanning interface to enable security partners to easily plug into Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.

3. Analytics

As existing workloads evolve, and new deployments grow in size and complexity, risk management is a key challenge as well as a necessity for enterprise IT. There will be added pressure on IT organizations to rapidly evolve their operational capabilities.

The next generation of Red Hat Insights expands the depth and breadth of analytics to support new environments and services, so businesses can easily reach their business goals. Insights has now updated its OpenStack cloud capabilities, and an Actions Insight Planner to add customisation to task assignments.

The majority of these updates will ensure components, such as the OpenStack-based private cloud infrastructure, run smoothly. In addition, we also added container workload analysis in order to provide greater visibility so that businesses can safely adopt containers.

4. Cloud

Customer demands are increasingly focused on rapidly advancing their hybrid cloud strategies, as well as the need for an all-in-one consistent management view for physical, virtual, and cloud environments. With the hybrid cloud management market rapidly maturing and growing, more developers and I&O professionals are looking at it as a way to address the needs of a growing multi-cloud portfolio.

The latest version of our hybrid cloud management platform – CloudForms 4.1 – is capable of supporting Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and now Google Cloud Platform, making it a comprehensive, hybrid cloud management solution for businesses.

5. JBoss

We believe organizations should be able to choose when and how they move to new architectures and programming paradigms. This freedom is a hallmark of open source. In line with this belief, we announced the general availability of Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 7 (JBoss EAP) and introduced JBoss Core Services Collection to provide customers with common and fundamental application components. With JBoss EAP 7, our aim is to help enterprises use and extend their existing application investments as they begin to transition to emerging architectures and programming paradigms that will require a lightweight, highly modular, cloud-native platform.

PR - Jul 29, 2016 - Cyberbullying Causes Depression, Nightmares and Anorexia, Kaspersky Lab Research Shows

According to the study Growing Up Online – Connected Kids, conducted by Kaspersky Lab and iconKids & Youth, cyberbullying is a far more dangerous threat to children than many parents think. The consequences for the majority of young victims of online harassment include serious problems with health and socialization.

Cyberbullying is intentional intimidation, persecution or abuse that children and teenagers may encounter on the internet. Interestingly, children aged 8-16 are more wary of this threat than their parents are. According to the study, 13% of children and 21% of parents consider it harmless. At the same time, 16% of the children surveyed are more afraid of being bullied online than offline, while half (50%) are equally afraid of both real-life and virtual bullying.

Parents should not downplay the dangers of cyberbullying. Despite the fact that the study found only 4% of children admitted to being bullied online (compared to 12% in real life), in 7 out of 10 cases the consequences were traumatic.

How to make use of older drivers in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 ?

$

Automatic driver installation is a feature of Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 - Vendors would publish device drivers as Windows updates.

Nonetheless, sometimes you may want to make use of an older driver version instead of the newer driver automatically downloaded by Windows 10.

The solution is quite simple - go to Device Manager to roll back the driver.

1.1.) Install the older driver by running the older driver's installation file.

1.2.) Go to Device Manager, look for the device under the list.

At this point, the device would still be using the newest driver.

1.3.) Double click on the device to load the Properties' form.

1.4.) Click 'Driver' tab.

1.5.) Click 'Roll Back Driver'.

The Roll Back Driver button will only be enabled if the OS detected the presence of an older driver's version.

1.6.) Restart the PC.

1.7.) Go back to Device Manager to check the device's driver, it should rollback to the older version.

ProjectSauron: Top Level Espionage Platform Covertly Extracts Encrypted Government Comms

Aug 9, 2016:

In September 2015, Kaspersky Lab’s Anti-Targeted Attack Platform flagged an unusual feature in the network of a client organization. The anomaly led researchers to ‘ProjectSauron’, a nation-state threat actor attacking state organizations with a unique set of tools for each victim, making traditional indicators of compromise almost useless. The aim of the attacks appears to be mainly cyber-espionage.

ProjectSauron is particularly interested in gaining access to encrypted communications, hunting them down using an advanced modular cyber-espionage platform that incorporates a set of unique tools and techniques. The most noteworthy feature of ProjectSauron’s tactics is the deliberate avoidance of patterns: ProjectSauron customizes its implants and infrastructure for each individual target, and never reuses them. This approach, coupled with multiple routes for the exfiltration of stolen data, such as legitimate email channels and DNS, enables ProjectSauron to conduct secretive, long-term spying campaigns in target networks.

ProjectSauron gives the impression of being an experienced and traditional actor that has put considerable effort into learning from other extremely advanced actors, including Duqu, Flame,Equation and Regin; adopting some of their most innovative techniques and improving on their tactics in order to remain undiscovered.

Key Features

ProjectSauron tools and techniques of particular interest include:
  • Unique footprint: Core implants that have different file names and sizes and are individually built for each target – making it very difficult to detect since the same basic indicators of compromise would have little value for any other target. Running in memory: The core implants make use of legitimate software update scripts and work as backdoors, downloading new modules or running commands from the attacker purely in memory.
  • A bias towards crypto-communications: ProjectSauron actively searches for information related to fairly rare, custom network encryption software. This client-server software is widely adopted by many of the target organizations to secure communications, voice, email, and document exchange. The attackers are particularly interested in encryption software components, keys, configuration files, and the location of servers that relay encrypted messages between the nodes.
  • Script-based flexibility: ProjectSauron has implemented a set of low-level tools which are orchestrated by high-level LUA scripts. The use of LUA components in malware is very rare - it has previously only been spotted in the Flame and Animal Farm attacks. Bypassing air-gaps: ProjectSauron makes use of specially-prepared USB drives to jump across air-gapped networks. These USB drives carry hidden compartments in which stolen data is concealed.
  • Multiple exfiltration mechanisms: ProjectSauron implements a number of routes for data exfiltration, including legitimate channels such as email and DNS, with stolen information copied from the victim disguised in day-to-day traffic.

Geography/victim profile

To date, more than 30 victim organizations have been identified in Russia, Iran and Rwanda, and there may be some in Italian-speaking countries. We believe many more organizations and geographies are likely to be affected.

Based on our analysis, targeted organizations generally play a key role in providing state services and include:
  • Government
  • Military
  • Scientific research centers
  • Telecom operators
  • Financial organizations

Forensic analysis indicates that ProjectSauron has been operational since June, 2011 and remains active in 2016. The initial infection vector used by ProjectSauron to penetrate victim networks remains unknown.

“A number of targeted attacks now rely on low-cost, readily-available tools. ProjectSauron, in contrast, is one of those that relies on homemade, trusted tools and customizable scripted code. The single use of unique indicators, such as control server, encryption keys and more, in addition to the adoption of cutting edge techniques from other major threat actors, is rather new. The only way to withstand such threats is to have many layers of security in place, based on a chain of sensors monitoring even the slightest anomaly in organizational workflow, multiplied with threat intelligence and forensic analysis to hunt for patterns even when there appear to be none,” said Vitaly Kamluk, Principal Security Researcher at Kaspersky Lab.

The cost, complexity, persistence and ultimate goal of the operation: stealing confidential and secret information from state-sensitive organizations, suggest the involvement or support of a nation state.

Kaspersky Lab security experts advise organizations to undertake a thorough audit of their IT networks and endpoints and to implement the following measures:

Introduce an anti-targeted attack solution alongside new or existing endpoint protection. Endpoint protection on its own is not enough to withstand the next generation of threat actors.

Call in the experts if the technology flags an anomaly. The most advanced security solutions will be able to spot an attack even as it’s happening, and security professionals are sometimes the only ones who can effectively block, mitigate and analyze major attacks.

Supplement the above with threat intelligence services: this will inform security teams about the latest evolution in the threat landscape, attack trends and the signs to watch out for. And last, but not least, since many major attacks start with a spear-phishing or other approach to employees, make sure that staff understand and practice responsible cyber-behavior.

The full report on ProjectSauron has been made available to customers of Kaspersky Lab APT Intelligence reporting service in advance. Learn more at: http://www.kaspersky.com/enterprise-security/apt-intelligence-reporting.

Indicators of compromise and YARA rules are available.

Digital Workplaces: A More Level Playing Field for Smaller Businesses

by Yaj Malik, EVP and Managing Director, Sage Asia

The concept of a modern day digital workplace is going through some revolutionary thinking. Recent technology and behavioural trends such as bring your own devices (BYOD), Internet of Things (IoT) and virtual teams are driving a dramatic transformation to the workplace. Increasingly, we are seeing a transition from individualised, physical workspaces to a digital ecosystem with no physical boundaries.

Yaj Malik, EVP and MD, Sage Asia

It is understandable that both employers and workers alike are having reservations about what the future holds for workspace design. For employees, especially millennials who grew up familiar with computers, mobile devices and the Internet, it seems natural that a modern-day workplace needs to provide for seamless digital lifestyles that blurs the line between their personal lives and professional work spheres.

At the same time, employers who are eager to attract and keep millennial talent, are concerned with providing them with a workplace that is conducive for creative thinking, collaboration and open communication as well as efficiency and productivity. This is crucial too as millennials currently make up more than half of the global workforce, according to a recent survey by Deloitte,

The pressure to keep up with preferences and workstyles of the millennial workers can be challenging for employers. Technological trends evolve at Internet speed these days, and workstyles – they can be a very subjective thing.

Small and medium business owners and leaders in smaller firms especially, may feel that they do not have the resources to keep up with the technological curve. Often faced with lean manpower as well as limited budget and resources, these business decision makers also have to weigh different business priorities. Some businesses may choose to forgo the digital workplace altogether, much to their detriment.

Here, Yaj Malik, executive vice president and managing director at Sage Asia, shares some digital workplace trends that small and medium business leaders will want to take note of, and why the digital workplace is an opportunity that they would not want to miss.

Mobile-first work environments

First, the digital workplace may not be such a bad idea for small medium businesses. Recently, a global study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has revealed that ‘mobile-first’ working environments lead to a direct increase in employee engagement. The same study also established links between the support for mobile technology and employees’ productivity, creativity, satisfaction and loyalty levels.

Generally, millennial workers expect the same convenience at work that they experience in their personal digitally enhanced lives. They want to be able to access their work files just as easily as they get to their twitter feeds. They want to be able to pay a company supplier in a straight forward manner, just like how they can check their bank account balance these days, and not waste time.

This has contributed to the consumerization of IT, which represents the movement of IT being introduced in the consumer market before spreading to business and government organizations. Mostly because employees are using the prevalent ‘consumer’ technologies and devices at home and then introducing them in the workplace. This has thrown up a plethora of trends like the mentioned BYOD, and these days, even BYOA or bring your own app.

Ideally, small and medium businesses need to have a workplace that is simplified and built around the forces shaping consumer technologies - social, mobile, apps and cloud. Simply put, millennial workers expect to be connected easily and conveniently, and they want to be able to work anytime from pretty much anywhere.

Allow for virtual teamwork

Creativity and collaboration are key to the modern workplace. The digital workplace needs to be able to provide room for individuality and creativity, and at the same time, provide a platform for cooperation and collaboration. Here, collaboration increasingly refers to co-working virtually.

Employers have to offer means for discussions and teamwork in the virtual space. Digital tools these days allow for not just discussions and conferencing, but also cyber working spaces where team members collaborate in real time, co-create or edit content, share files and information, etc.

The key is to use technological tools to our advantage, and allow people to work smarter and be more productive. Technology cannot and should not be an added chore where workers need to invest too much time to learn to use or adapt to.

Security in the digital workplace

There are many studies out there that points an accusing finger at millennials, calling them a generation of workers who are casual about data privacy and security – a generation who are so used to sharing personal information and images on social media that they do not think much about it.

Stereotyping or not, my advice to small and medium businesses is to focus on putting in place necessary security protocols and tools, and adapting to the workstyles of the millennials. This means that cybersecurity solutions for the digital workplace needs to be able to co-exist and adapt to workplace behaviours of millennials (or any generation of works).

Cybersecurity solutions that are catered to the millennial mind set offers agility, flexibility, mobility, and a personal touch. These qualities improve life for all of us, regardless of our age or generation. One example is a profile or role based access control to company networks. Profile or role based login allows IT to configure different levels of security controls for workers with different work roles. An employee in finance department who compiles the company’s quarter sales performance figures will have different levels of security access to the company’s network from that of a staff in frontline sales for instance.

Change as opportunity

Finally, more generalisations regarding millennials:

Mobile is the platform of choice for the millennial generation. They have less tolerance for poor user experiences means that the importance of creating great online experiences is higher than ever. They prefer to be in control, so favour website self-service solutions over assisted service; give millennials the power to resolve their own problems. They will talk about your brand on social media, so engage them in the conversation and learn from it.

Most importantly, small and medium businesses need to see the transformation to a digital workspace as an opportunity. We all know that there is a large amount of data being generated and collected each day. Data that will be driving tomorrow’s business environment and economy. Smaller businesses need to, if they have not already, put themselves into this data-revolution to stay competitive and relevant.

The millennial worker-friendly, digital workplace offers small and medium businesses access and connectivity to data–driven business environment. An environment where market changes come fast, and decision making needs to be faster. It opens businesses up to an environment where consumers are connected and well informed, and workers need to be able to engage them from across multiple channels – whether it is in the physical or virtual world. It is a future business environment that allows for small medium businesses to engage larger competitors on a more level digital playing field.

PIKOM Unveils ICT Job Market Outlook in Malaysia 2016

Aug 11, 2016

The average monthly salary of an ICT professional in Malaysia grew from RM7,706 in 2014 to RM8,114 in 2015,  an increase of 5.3%. This year, the projected average monthly salary is RM8,496, a 4.7% increase over 2015.
In 2015, an IT Project Manager in Malaysia earned more than their counterparts in the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and India but much less than the ones in United States, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
These are some of the many interesting findings in the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM)’s ICT JOB MARKET OUTLOOK IN MALAYSIA 2016 report.

The report was done in collaboration with Jobstreet.com, a leading online job board presently covering the employment markets in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. The report has been an indispensable guide to C-level executives, human resource practitioners, job seekers, undergraduates and many others, for more than eight years. It is aimed at helping decision makers in organisations, to understand and plan their talent requirements and budgets as well as to give job hunters a realistic view on the market rate for certain job categories, when they are asked for their salary expectations.
Launched today, the latest report indicated that despite the number of challenging factors that have hit our country since 2014 such as the slowdown of the economy, the drop in the prices of crude oil and commodities, the depreciation of the Ringgit against major currencies and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the ICT industry in Malaysia showed resilience and continued its growth path.
The total ICT value in Malaysia for 2015 is estimated to be RM155.2 billion, based on the Average Annual Growth Rate (AAGR) of 8% for the period 2010-2015. The share of the ICT industry to the economy expanded from 16.5% in 2010 to 17.6% in 2015.
The main driver of the ICT industry growth is the ICT Services subsector whose share to the GDP rose from 3.3% in 2000 to 6.6% in 2015 and is projected to reach 7 % by end of 2016.
“It has been a challenging 2015 for the industry. But we have achieved positive growth that has been particularly driven by and thanks to, the expansion in the ICT Services subsector, “said PIKOM Chairman Chin Chee Seong.
While ICT Manufacturing subsector has been slowing, the ICT Services subsector has been experiencing positive growth in the last two decades, he added.
“Consistent with industry growth, salaries also rose although at a slower growth rate,” said Chin, at a press conference today held at PIKOM’s premises in Damansara Perdana.
                                                        JOB MARKET TRENDS IN MALAYSIA

Generally all ICT job categories, namely the fresh graduates, junior executives, senior executives, middle level managers and senior managers registered a positive salary increase in 2015 albeit with a lower-than-expected growth.
In the table above, the construction / building /engineering industries posted the highest AAGR of the average monthly salary of ICT professionals for the 2009 to 2015 period, at 8.8%, followed by education (8.6%); automotive/heavy industry/machinery (8.5%) and electrical and electronics (8.5%). Not surprisingly, the oil / gas / petroleum industry which has been experiencing a downturn, registered an AAGR of 4.7% over the same period and a 2.9% year-on-year growth in 2015.
However, oil/gas/petroleum was in the top five paying industries by job category. The other four are banking services; automotive/heavy industry/machinery; agriculture/plantation/aquaculture; and chemical/fertilisers/pesticides.
“The oil, gas and petroleum sector is still ranked as one of the overall top-paying industries by job categories despite the current industry downturn,” said PIKOM Research Committee Chair Woon Tai Hai.
“In fact in the fresh graduates, senior executives and middle manager job categories, the oil, gas and petroleum was in the top five paying industries in 2015 posting an average monthly salary of RM2,984, RM8,291 and RM11,804 respectively,” he added.
However, PIKOM acknowledged that the 5.3 %salary growth for 2015 for the overall average monthly salary of ICT professionals is the lowest in eight years, said Woon.
While the industry expected a downturn, it certainly did not expect an impact of such magnitude, he said.
“Perhaps it is also a wake-up call for the industry to realise that although salaries have been growing, future salary growth cannot be taken for granted,” he added.
The Challenge of Retaining Local Talent Remains
As in previous years, the industry continues to face the exodus of talent who seek greener pastures overseas due to better salaries and remunerations. When benchmarked against Asia, United States and Middle East, Malaysia continues to lag behind in terms of salaries, which has been a key factor in the continued prevalence of the brain drain issue.
The Purchasing Power Parity Adjusted Criterion benchmarking scale in 2015, which takes into account inflation rates and fluctuations in the foreign exchange, showed that the average monthly salary of an IT Project Manager at entry level in the United Arab Emirates and United States was respectively, 2.18 and 1.5 times more than in Malaysia. The average monthly salary of an entry level IT Project Manager, in Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore, was 1.95 times, 1.88 times and 1.38 times, respectively, more than in Malaysia.
It is imperative that both the industry and government tackle the issue of talent outflow through ensuring continuous stream of quality fresh graduates entering the work force, promoting R&D and commercialisation and maintaining competitive salary packages, said PIKOM Chairman Chin.
“PIKOM would like to express their gratitude to Jobstreet.com for once again collaborating with us on this important report and also to Payscale for their valuable data. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to our sponsors, BDO, Fusionex, Hitachi Sunway and Powerware Systems for their support towards the success of this report,” he added.

“Finally, this report would not have been possible without the efforts of the PIKOM Research Committee headed by Mr. Woon Tai Hai,” said Chin.

Aug 25, 2016 - Taipei, Taiwan

BIOSTAR, a time-honored brand, has had professional experience in the motherboard market and IT industry for thirty years. It is literally a very special year for BIOSTAR and more good things are coming its way. BIOSTAR turns loss into profit and Qisda builds a partnership with it by becoming one of its shareholders. Paul Wang, the founder and the president of BIOSTAR, had an exclusive interview with The Apple Daily, a newspaper printed in Taiwan and he said: “We take diverse strategies for the business and concentrate on the sales of motherboard targeted for the high-end gaming market to run our business. Moreover, the sales of IPC has been growing rapidly and steadily in recent years. To show our ambition to our long-term customers, we have launched BIOSTAR solid state drives (SSD) this August in Asia, which marked our first steps into the SSD market and to show our intention and potential that we can offer a wide selection of products to the IT market. BIOSTAR and Qisda have been co-operating in perfect harmony and will continue to collaborate with each other for industrial control in the near future.

BIOSTAR has gotten to first base with the net benefits making it return to the black in the second quarter of 2016 due to the diverse strategies for enterprise transformation, finally ending the deficit for the past six quarters. On the other hand, Qisda has injected funds and resources into BIOSTAR as icing on the cake for its business since Qisda bought fractional interests from BIOSTAR on the open market in 2015 to become the largest outside shareholder at BIOSTAR.

When it comes to the current issue “Will Qisda become one of the major shareholders at BIOSTAR in the near future?”, Paul Wang broke the silence during the interview and made a response to this issue. “Qisda aggressively concentrates its business on the vertical integration of IoT, one of the most important reasons to make us decide to cooperate with Qisda much closely is to reinforce our competence for IPC, which is one of BIOSTAR’s main products bringing lots of benefit to us. Moreover, we will completely cooperate with Qisda’s subsidiaries and offer great support to them for developing mobile POS. On the other hand, we have been evaluating the effectiveness to choose Qisda in Suzhou as one of our manufacturers.” Wang said.

Rumor has it that the major shareholder at BIOSTAR will do stock transfer to Qisda due to few reasons, including the deficit arising from the quantity of motherboard being less than 1,000,000 pcs this year, the globally shrinking motherboard industry, Qisda becoming one of the shareholders at BIOSTAR. To solemnly clarify the rumor, Paul Wang claims that he never has the idea to sell out BIOSTAR. No matter what kind of strategies BIOSTAR would take, BIOSTAR is always aware to measure up to the expectation of its customers, staffs, and shareholders. “But no one would conduct the business for a long life. That’s why we have been trying to reinforce our professional managers’ abilities in every business units, which is a kind of soft power to enhance our inner competence and competitiveness.

In recent years, the global low-end motherboard market has been shrunk rapidly; meanwhile, BIOSTAR has been adjusted the overall strategy for the inventory of overseas channels, which makes few users think BIOSTAR has been withdrawn from the PC market. Despite the shrinking low-end motherboard market, the need of mid-end and high-end motherboards has been growing actually. To satisfy gaming enthusiasts’ appetite for cool PC products, BIOSTAR has launched the wide selection of gaming-featured new motherboards to the market. The quantity of mid-end and high-end motherboards has increased by two times than that of 2015. Overall, the quantity of motherboard has met the expectation of annual sales during this January to this July. “We’re highly confident to say that the quantity of motherboard this year is definitely more than that of 2015. What’ more, the unit price and gross margin have been increasing constantly.” Wang said.

“We took the lead in offering the well-received motherboards with affordable price to the PC market and the gaming lovers in 2014, making lots of competitors gradually take the same action and strategy after our successful experience.“ the vice general manager in BIOSTAR motherboard business unit, Vincent Lin said. In 2016, BIOSTAR added the novelty element “lighting” into the RACING series of motherboards to provide the enjoyment of audio and lighting effects to competitive gamers and eSports fans, especially for the uses in the Asia, China, and North America markets. To promote the newly launched RACING series motherboards, BISOTAR has invested three times marketing budget this year than that of the past few years. Furthermore, BIOSTAR has been conducting the horizontal product line extensions to offer diverse PC products to the market since the second half of 2016.

Biostar SSDBiostar Mini PC Racing P1

“First, we are proud to announce BIOSTAR is ready to step into the SSD market. We have officially launched SSD with four capacity options this August, including 120GB, 240GB, 480GB for G300 series and 120GB for S100 series, targeted for PC DIY channels, where BIOSTAR is good at dealing with. Moreover, we plan to take the first-round promotion for SSD targeted on the Asia and China markets. Second, we are about to launching mini PC, RACING P1, with a variety of interfaces to compatible with a wide selection of desktops, which is the highlighting different from compute stick launched by other competitors in IT industry. For BIOSTAR 30th anniversary, we launch all these new products for gaming, RACING series gaming motherboards, SSD, and RACING P1 mini PC, to hit its another peak of BIOSTAR career.” Lin said.

“Besides of the newly launched products this year, the sales of IPC has been growing steadily.” the vice executive general manager, David Liu said. BIOSTAR offers diverse product lines from industrial motherboard to system on module service, especially for the waterproof and shock-resistant module for panel PC, compatible with Windows and Android operating systems. On the other hand, it offers product appearance design and assembly service to the customers. The key customers for panel PC module are in Taiwan and Korea by now. Actually, the panel PC module can be applied to a wide range of products, such as KIOSK, vending machine, mobile POS (cash register). “We are proud to say that BIOSTAR is one of the top 3 POS motherboard suppliers in Taiwan.” Liu said.

Although BIOSTAR has been running the business of IPC for ten years, the IPC business has been expanded its scale and become much successful in the last two years. Nowadays, there are more and more competitors springing up on the IPC market and its price plunges rapidly and dramatically. To deal with the problems on the IPC market, BIOSTAR gets involved in system design service aggressively, bringing the quick service and effective solutions to all the customers, confident in BIOSTAR’s competencies. To show their professionals and determination in the business of IPC, they efficiently shipped out the first order this August, even the order being got in the second half of 2015. It is worthwhile to mention that the China subsidiary is getting involved in the business of intelligent lockers. What’ better, the China subsidiary has been expanding its sales development to gain good publicity for this new business.

BIOSTAR positively estimates that the quantity of IPC will increase by 20% this year and the revenue is expected to rise, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. Currently, BIOSTAR has been earning the profit from the business of IPC in the past four years. As you know, BIOSTAR has got much successful results from the business of motherboard, and it has been out of the red, bringing about the positive result, the net profit at NT$0.15 per share in Q2 2016. “Will BIOSTAR keep staying in the black throughout the whole year?” the reporter raised a brief but profound question to Paul Wang at the end of the interview. “That’s what we highly expect to see! We will do our best to earn the profit steadily and satisfy our customers’ needs in the meantime for building the win-win business relationship. ” Wang said.

PR - Aug 26, 2016 - Kaspersky Lab study proves: Smartphones distract us and make us less efficient at work

While smartphones help us stay in touch with colleagues, keep on top of our inbox, and complete urgent tasks on the move, they actually make us less productive when we are working at our desks, according to a new psychological experiment by the Universities of Würzburg and Nottingham Trent, commissioned by Kaspersky Lab.

The experiment unearthed a correlation between productivity levels and the distance between participants and their smartphone. When their smartphone was taken away, participant performance improved by 26 per cent. The experiment tested the behavior of 95 persons between 19 and 56 years of age in laboratories at the universities of Würzburg and Nottingham-Trent. Care was taken to balance experimental conditions and gender across laboratory sites.

Researchers asked participants to perform a concentration test under four different circumstances: with their smartphone in their pocket, at their desk, locked in a drawer and removed from the room completely. The results are significant – test results were lowest when the smartphone was on the desk, but with every additional layer of distance between participants and their smartphones, test performance increased. Overall, test results were 26% higher when phones were removed from the room.

PR - Aug 23, 2016 - Financial Attacks Grow by 16% in Q2 2016 as Malware Creators Join Forces

Financial malware is evolving through collaboration between malware creators, according to the results of Kaspersky Lab’s IT threat evolution Report for Q2. During the quarter Kaspersky Lab products blocked 1,132,031 financial malware attacks on users, a rise of 15.6% compared to the previous quarter. One of the reasons for the rise is the collaboration between the authors of two leading banking Trojans: Gozi Trojan and Nymaim Trojan, pushing both into the top 10 ranking of financial malware.

Banking Trojans remain the most dangerous online threats. These malware are often propagated via compromised or fraudulent websites and spam emails and, after infecting users mimic an official online banking page in an attempt to steal users’ personal information, such as bank account details, passwords, or payment card details.

According to the Kaspersky Lab statistics for the quarter, Turkey became the country most attacked by this type of malware: 3.45% of Kaspersky Lab product users in the country encountered such an online threat during the quarter. Russia was in second place, the target of 2.9% of online threats, followed by Brazil with 2.6%. The Olympic Games are likely to push Brazil up the attack list in Q3.

25 things that are better because of Linux (and open source)

By John Terrill, Corporate Communications, Red Hat

Twenty-five years ago today via a short Usenet post, Linus Torvalds shared the first iteration of a free, hobby operating system that he had developed. Of course, what became known as Linux is now far, far more than a hobbyist’s OS and spawned a wave of innovation that significantly changed the IT landscape. While Linux is the poster child, open source is also about far more than an operating system (although it remains critically important!). The underpinnings of open source, from transparency and collaboration to freedom and broad dissemination, have spilled out well beyond the confines of enterprise technology to greatly impact both the world of consumer technology as well as the global business climate at large.

We’ve picked out 25 things that we think are better thanks to Linux and open source; some of these may not exist without an open source backbone, while others may have evolved out of necessity, but would likely be unrecognizable to today’s counterparts. So what made our list?

Global Industry
  1. Real-time trading - We take near-simultaneous financial transactions almost for granted, as being able to move money, make stock trades and conduct other financial transactions is functionally an on-demand service. But all of this would likely not be possible without the real-time functionality of the Linux kernel, which powers more than 50 percent of the world’s financial transactions and backs 100 percent of Fortune 500 banks.
  2. The global technology economy - Linux and other open source projects built on top of it have helped to drive the a standardization of IT, allowing for more interoperability across the world’s business environment. Via a common “language of IT,” services and software are better able to grow and evolve across traditional geographical boundaries, fostering a truly global technology marketplace.
  3. Government IT - Driven by the price efficiencies, innovation and scalability of first Linux and then open source at large, government agencies have a rich history in open source and are now driving towards becoming models of open source efficiency. Most recently, the U.S. federal government’s Second Open Government National Action Plan (pdf) emphasized use of open source, and contribution back to open source communities to help foster innovation and lower costs.
  4. Connected cities - Networking the critical aspects of a city, from manhole covers and traffic lights to emergency services and severe weather alerts, requires computing at a massive scale. It’s Linux, not a proprietary operating system, that provides this vast scalability while also offering the underlying capabilities to abstract the various computing layers to make managing such a complex deployment manageable.
  5. Air traffic control - The Federal Aviation Administration, the point of truth for North American aviation management, oversees nearly 24,000 flights per day...and it’s all run on the scalable, secure platform of Linux.

Enterprise IT’s Status Quo
  1. Supercomputers - Computationally intensive tasks, from weather modelling to oil and gas exploration, require computers specialized to handle these extreme simulations, giving rise to the modern supercomputer. Supercomputing as it exists today, however, would also look much different sans Linux - for example, just look at the top 10 of the TOP500 list (which tracks supercomputing performance): all are running some form of a Linux distribution.
  2. Cloud computing - Distributed (cloud) computing, where computing resources aren’t on-premises or even owned by a given organization, simply would not be possible as we know it today sans Linux and open source. The scalability and flexibility of Linux enable many of these massive deployments to actually work, while the significantly reduced cost barriers of Linux make them more financially feasible.
  3. On-demand services - Going hand-in-hand with cloud computing is the concept of on-demand services. If a developer needs a VM or if IT Ops needs to provision a server, they expect to do so quickly and painlessly; Linux’s scalability allows for this rapid provisioning, as does its lack of cost-prohibitive licensing.
  4. DevOps - DevOps has existed in the IT buzzword lexicon for several years now, offering a better delineation (and working relationship) between developer and IT operations professionals. Thanks to Linux and the broader world of open source, this methodology becomes clearer and easier to implement on an almost daily basis, as new Linux-based innovations, like Linux containers, emerge to enable respective teams to focus on their specific roles and limit scope creep.
  5. Hybrid computing - Organizations today do not need to choose between the cloud or on-premises; instead, they can use a mix of technologies that best suit their infrastructure needs. Without Linux as, again, the scalable, stable base for these service mixes, hybrid computing simply wouldn’t be possible as we know it today - enterprises would likely need to choose between on-premises or hosted, with the specter of lock-in looming over whatever choice that they made.

IT’s Next Wave
  1. IoT - The boom in interest around the Internet of Things (IoT), the notion of a network of devices, big and small, that can “talk” to each other for more efficient operations, likely would not have taken shape the same way without Linux. Embedded Linux OSes, a fraction of the size of more conventional operating systems, power the world of IoT, making enterprise deployments scalable and cost-efficient. Without Linux, IoT would likely simply be too financially draining or require lock-in to a single vendor’s stack
  2. Linux containers - If the name doesn’t give it away, Linux containers, a method of packaging and isolating an application with only its dependencies, are a technology built from key pieces of the Linux kernel. While other, similar technologies have existed in the past, the open nature of Linux containers combined with community-powered innovation have allowed for an ecosystem to boom almost overnight, giving enterprises a new path forward when it comes to how they build, deploy and manage their applications.
  3. OpenStack - Now synonymous with private cloud computing, the OpenStack cloud framework likely would not exist, or at least would be incredibly different, without Linux. It’s the scalability and flexibility of Linux that enables OpenStack to be so successful in bringing the benefits of private clouds to the enterprise, all while avoiding the lock-in that comes with a proprietary private cloud framework.
  4. Software-defined everything - From networking to storage, software is being used to abstract the traditional complexities of enterprise hardware, leading to a world where nearly everything is “software-defined.” Linux provides a major stepping stone for these efforts, once again providing a flexible, open platform for this abstraction to occur without incurring lock-in.
  5. Big data analytics - Big data, the collective term for the mountains of information produced by businesses, can hold the keys to more efficient operations and even increased revenues by identifying new opportunities, but first this data must be sorted, parsed and analyzed. The analytics tools, many of which themselves are open source, that process these vast expanses of data require a powerful, scalable platform, a platform that may not exist if not for Linux.

Reimagining the “beige box”
  1. Commodity hardware - Commoditized hardware, namely the x86 chip (the baseline for computing today), likely would’ve struggled to emerge as strongly as it has without Linux functioning as the baseline operating system. Linux provided a standardized operating system for x86 chipsets, giving a predictable base for businesses to migrate to from customized hardware stacks.
  2. New hardware approaches - Much like the rise of x86, Linux is also helping to bring about new hardware approaches like ARM, an extremely energy efficient processor. Without Linux providing the standardized platform for these chipsets to adhere to, we’d still likely see new hardware emerge, but it would be far more “bespoke” and less interchangeable across various scenarios.
  3. Amazon - Amazon Web Services is now nearly synonymous with public cloud computing, AWS now has more than 1 million customers using its vast arsenal of on-demand services...and Linux is a fundamental component of the AWS platform. While an AWS-like service isn’t unimaginable without Linux (think of the early ISPs in the 90s), the scale and price structure of an AWS would be hard to replicate.
  4. Google - The online search, advertising and cloud giant Google would look much, much different without Linux and the other open source technologies that power the company's underlying infrastructure. While this isn’t to say that Google would not exist without Linux, we might lose its contributions to the open source world, including Kubernetes, if Linux wasn’t serving as the icebreaker.
  5. Technology transparency and accountability - Without Linux driving open source, we’d likely still see the enterprise datacenter as a brick-walled silo, with little to no insight into the broader business and much of the IT team’s daily operations focused on simply keeping the lights on. With Linux and open source, IT is now far more transparent to the broader enterprise, helping to better align with general business goals and actually innovate as opposed to just maintaining a status quo.

Beyond the Business
  1. Drones - Tied closely to IoT is the drone trend, that of remotely controlled flying robots. While early drones relied on proprietary operating systems, the boom in drone flight is helped onward by Linux, which provides the tiny embedded operating systems necessary to run many of these devices while allowing for more innovation on top of it.
  2. Open government initiatives - Pulling from the open source community model is the Open Government Initiative (and other state and local efforts) implemented by the U.S. federal government. Focusing on transparency and collaboration with the general public, it’s not at all unlikely that without the driving power of open source (and Linux leading the charge) that these efforts would be fewer and far between or much more limited in scale and scope.
  3. Crowdsourcing and crowdfunding - Also pulling more from a cultural level than a technical one are the concepts of crowdsourcing and crowdfunding, where a project is built or financed by potential end users instead of dedicated employees or volunteers. This is an example of the meritocracy of Linux and open source being pulled into the mainstream, where sites like Kickstarter reward interesting ideas with significant funds that they might not otherwise receive.
  4. Android - Effectively a mobile fork of Linux, Android provides a scalable, flexible mobile platform for a wide variety of chipsets and phone formats. It’s gaining ground (if not overtaken) proprietary OSes like iOS and Windows Mobile and provides a robust ecosystem of applications and services for users, not unlike its Linux parent. Would an Android-like have emerged without Linux? Almost certainly, but it’s doubtful that it would maintain the presence that Android currently enjoys in today’s consumer market.
  5. 3D printing/maker movement - The “maker movement,” where end users endeavor to create their own goods, is highlighted by the rise of 3D printers, which use various materials to create parts and whole-crafted items. While far from a commodity technology at the moment, the 3D printer movement is driven by Linux, with many of the printers on the market supporting Linux thanks to flexibility of the platform and much of the software powering these devices being Linux-based. 3D printing would’ve surely emerged even without Linux, but thanks to the widespread power of the platform and collaborative nature of the community, the way we see 3D printing today owes quite a bit to Linux and open source.

PR - Sep 2, 2016 : Kaspersky Lab Launches Anti Targeted Attack Platform and New Security Services

From June to August 2016, Malaysia was a hot target for cyberattacks logging 1,037, 725 web-bourne threats that were blocked via Kaspersky Lab solutions. Out of the 200 nations and territories that Kaspersky Lab serves, Malaysia ranked 51st as a target. During the same period, Kaspersky Lab’s Malaysian enterprise and end-users were targeted by 18,905, 572 local malware incidents, putting the country in 67th place. Malaysia ranked even higher as a source of web infections, at 25th place during this period. Kaspersky Lab logged 283, 779 web infections that spread from Malaysia. Cyber Security Malaysia reported 11,900 cyber security cases in 2015, compared to only 1,038 cases in 2007. Industry watchers believe that the reported number is only the tip of the iceberg.

PR - Sep 1, 2016 - Shanghai, China - Huawei Fully Unveils Its Cloud Strategy at HUAWEI CONNECT

More than 20,000 ICT industry leaders and experts from over 120 countries and regions gathered for the very first HUAWEI CONNECT, Huawei's largest-ever integrated conference for the global ICT ecosystem. Held in Shanghai, the theme of this three-day event is "Shape the Cloud," aimed at exploring cloud era trends and how different industries can achieve digital transformation by developing cloud technology and contributing to the cloud ecosystem.

This event marks the first time that Huawei has publicly given a comprehensive look at its cloud strategy. During the first keynote, Ken Hu, Huawei's Rotating CEO, explained that the company aims to position itself as the enabler and driver of an intelligent world. The company will hold true to its culture of customer-centricity, focus on ICT infrastructure, and provide innovative cloud technology. Throughout this process, Huawei aims to become a preferred partner that enables digital and cloud transformation, while actively contributing to the cloud ecosystem through openness, collaboration, and shared success.

Information and communications technology (ICT) will be the cornerstone of an intelligent world. Ken Hu compared devices to "feelers" that give all things the ability to sense their environments. Networks will connect everything, and the cloud will be the source of intelligence behind all things. These three elements form a synergetic architecture of devices, information pipes, and the cloud, and they are the strategic focus of Huawei's investment in the future.

UOB - Sep 1, 2016 - Why Asia remains an attractive source of income and growth for investors

UOB Asset Management (Malaysia) Berhad (UOBAM (Malaysia)) remains confident of Asia’s long-term potential for attractive earnings growth and yields despite some near-term challenges arising from mounting global political risks, volatile commodity prices and global growth concerns.

According to Ms Lim Suet Ling, Chief Executive Officer at UOBAM (Malaysia):

Ms. Lim Suet Ling, CEO, UOBAM

When assessing Asia’s investment potential, it should always be viewed through a long-term lens. In the near-term, the outlook in Asia remains challenging due partly to the issues in China, which has been facing a conundrum of rising debt and slower economic growth. In addition, there have been only marginal improvements in the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), new housing projects and foreign exchange reserves.

Despite these challenges, we believe that Asian markets continue to look attractive given Asia’s potential, favourable demographics and rising income, and these structural trends should deliver investment opportunities for astute investors in the long-term.

To add to its appeal, Asian equity valuations are attractive and Asian bonds have presented some good occasions to lock in favourable yields over the long term. To meet investment objectives amid the current economic climate, it is crucial to be discerning in terms of fundamentals, sector, geography and stock selection.

PR - Aug 30, 2016 - Association taps IBM technology gauge public perception on mental health

IBM and the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) are teaming up to survey public perception surrounding mental health issues to narrow the awareness gap associated with the condition.

The survey would be done using IBM Social Media Analytics, a powerful monitoring tool that captures and consolidates insights from social media to analyze the opinions, interactions and conversation patterns expressed on Facebook, Twitter, online communities, forums and blogs.

“Collaboration with organizations like IBM and leveraging on the available technology is instrumental as stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness or psychological distress cause many to forego seeking help,” said MMHA president Mr See Chee Seng. “MMHA will be able to reach the public far more effectively as a result of the insights gained from this project.”

According to the Health Ministry’s National Health and Morbidity Survey, mental health problems among Malaysians aged 18-years-old and above rose to 29.2% in 2015 from 12% in 2012.

This consulting effort is part of IBM’s Impact Grant program – a pro bono initiative that provides consulting expertise and technology such as cognitive, mobile and social to support nonprofit organizations in serving their stakeholders more effectively.

PR - Aug 29, 2016 - Country's Online Shopping Soars as User Confidence Increases

iPay88 Sdn Bhd ('iPay88') – the leading online payment solution provider in Southeast Asia, today shares that online shopping in Malaysia is on the verge of an inflection point that will dramatically change the country's eCommerce scene.

Chan Kok Long, Executive Director of iPay88 lists the two key disruptive driver trends that support higher user confidence, as follows:

A. Technological-wise: New solution innovations that make funds immediately available i.e. Real-time personal banking or overdraft application, and direct conversion of token/reward points - that increases consumers’ online purchasing power.

B. Behavioural-wise: Online shopping patterns towards higher value items such as automobile, property and professional services.

Of the technological-based driver, iPay88 is currently working with selected partner banks to approve personal loans for online purchase.

Chan says, “We are emulating what Alibaba has been doing since mid-2015, to offer their customers financial loans based on their online shopping history.”

Riding on this, business savvy eMerchants are starting to offer ‘trial session’ opportunities for higher value products in efforts to lock-in more online orders of greater value.
